If you have watched Barcelona FC take on Real Madrid FC, or Chelsea FC lock horns with Arsenal FC, may be a tie between the two Manchester teams, then you might just have a slight perception of the friendly football match between the boys’ teams of Crescent University and Mcpherson University, both situated in Abeokuta, Ogun State, south-western Nigeria.

The game was a friendly match to mark the birthday of the founder and proprietor of Crescent University, His Excellency, Judge, Prince Bola Abdul Jabbar Ajibola, SAN, CFR, KBE, D.LITT, LLD, FCIArb, FNIALS. So it was one of the activities of the Founder’s Day celebration.

Kick-off time 4: 30 pm, Monday, 21st March, 2016 and the visiting team had arrived about an hour earlier. Both teams had their warm-up sections and the match began. From the blow of the whistle, the teams went on making intrusions into each other’s vital areas, trying to put the ball behind the net with a number of defence-breaking attempts.

The defence lines of the two teams stood their grounds until the eighteenth minute of the first half. Olaitan Wakil of Crescent University took a short from the midfield, few meters from the center circle, like Xabi Alonso did a number of times Liverpool FC of England. It caught the Mcpherson University team’s goalkeeper out of position and the ball went in. That goal made it Crescent University-1, but Mcpherson University-0.

Right from there, the game went into topsy-turvy. Both teams continued to press forward but the score line stood the same till the end of the game. For the home team, Crescent University, the credit goes to the defence that made sure that all efforts by the attackers of Mcpherson University were thwarted.

Mcpherson University had their goalkeeper, Akinsanya Emmanuel, to thank for keeping score at 1-0. After the mistake he made in the first half, he marshaled his goal line perfectly and had more than five saves to his credit on the day.

On hand to witness the game, were the Vice Chancellor of Crescent University, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, the Bursar, Alhaji J. A. Bankole, the Deputy Registrar, Admission, Alhaji M. A. Lawal, and the University Auditor, Alhaji M. Alabi.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the Crescent University team and as well commended the boys from Mcpherson University for making sure that though they lost, the score line was very slim and respectable.
